LAMBDA Heat Pumps Nominated for the Tirol Change Award

Hintergrundgrafik

Heat in the air – Lambda Heat Pumps stands for innovation, sustainability, and maximum energy efficiency. Based in Kirchbichl, Tyrol, the company relies on environmentally friendly technologies to actively drive the energy transition forward. At the heart of its development is the use of the natural refrigerant R290 (propane) and a specially developed 3K process that enables a revolutionary increase in efficiency.

With a very low global warming potential (GWP) of approximately 100 to 700 times lower than conventional synthetic refrigerants, R290 is far more environmentally friendly. The use of R290 in all heat pumps significantly reduces the ecological footprint—from production through to the end of the product’s life cycle. At the same time, there is a strong focus on the energy efficiency of LAMBDA’s products. The proprietary 3K process (3 Kelvin) optimizes heat transfer between the air and the refrigerant. This innovative technology enables energy consumption to be reduced by approximately 26% compared to the top A+++ energy class. This increase in efficiency not only makes a significant contribution to CO₂ reduction but also saves customers energy costs.

“To make the heat from the air usable for the heat pump, the outside air temperature must be higher than the refrigerant in the heat pump. Other heat pumps require a temperature difference of 8 to 12 degrees Celsius for this—with us, it’s only 3 degrees. Every degree saved translates to a 2 to 4 percent energy savings. Ultimately, this is reflected in significantly lower operating costs on the one hand, and on the other hand, it also results in a massive reduction in CO₂ emissions,” says Managing Director Florian Entleitner.

Innovative approaches and greater efficiency

The heat pumps are manufactured in Tyrol, which not only boosts regional economic activity but also helps reduce transportation emissions. LAMBDA Heat Pumps places great emphasis on short supply chains and gives preference to regional suppliers. The company is also taking innovative approaches to building management: Instead of constructing a new building, the decision was made in 2023 to purchase an existing commercial property. This decision aligns with the company’s philosophy of avoiding unnecessary land sealing and thus conserving the region’s valuable resources.

In addition to production, the company also supports resource-efficient operations in the service sector through digitalization. This allows commissioning and maintenance to be carried out more efficiently via remote maintenance, thereby avoiding unnecessary service calls. This not only reduces the workload but also contributes significantly to minimizing emissions and resource consumption during ongoing operations. In addition, the company is developing software that automatically analyzes weather data and current electricity prices and, based on this, creates the ideal schedule for the heat pump to ensure the lowest possible operating costs for users.

Active educational work

LAMBDA Heat Pumps goes beyond its technical innovations and is actively involved in educational initiatives. The founders regularly give lectures at schools and universities to inspire young people about sustainable technologies. This initiative helps raise awareness of the need for change and sustainability in the Alpine economic region. Through open dialogue with future generations, not only is knowledge shared, but an incentive is also created to actively engage in the energy transition.
