The history of the Landgasthaus zur Quelle in Seeshaupt is a testament to tradition and innovation. Originally known as a post station and beer hall, the building has become an integral part of the village landscape since the early 20th century. After a devastating fire in 1917, a farmhouse was built on the same site, which was later converted into a village restaurant. Since 1978, the property has served as a modern country inn with hotel accommodations. The current owners, the Pulwitt family, have been running the inn since 1998 and have continuously invested in renovations and modernization ever since to offer guests the highest level of comfort.

Modern Heating Technology: A Step Toward the Future

In 2024, the Pulwitt family decided to modernize the country inn both environmentally and economically. The outdated oil-fired heating system, with a capacity of 80 kW and an annual consumption of around 10,500 liters of oil, was replaced by a highly efficient heat pump system.

Planning and implementation by Maximilian Metzger Building Services

Our trusted partner, Maximilian Metzger Haustechnik, performed a precise heating load calculation, which determined a heating requirement of 50 kW plus an additional 10 kW for hot water. Based on these calculations, the decision was made to install a cascade system consisting of three LAMBDA EU20 L heat pumps and two 900-liter buffer tanks.

Adjustments for optimal efficiency

  • Radiator optimization: The radiators in the building were adjusted to allow for a lower flow temperature.

  • Ceiling heating in the restaurant: In addition to traditional radiators, ceiling heating ensures a consistent indoor climate.

  • Electricity meter: A separate meter was installed to take advantage of a discounted electricity rate.

Technical settings

  • Hot water temperature: 60 °C
  • Maximum radiator flow temperature: 55 °C
  • Maximum flow temperature for ceiling heating: 35 °C

Efficiency Assessment: Energy Savings and Cost Benefits

After the first few months of heating, the heat pump system is performing at its best:

Electricity consumption (August 2024 – January 2025): 10,800 kWh
Electricity costs: approx. 2,268 EUR for six months (at 0.21 EUR/kWh), extrapolated to approx. 4,500 EUR per year

Comparison to the old oil heating system:

  • Annual oil costs: 10,500 EUR (at 1 EUR/liter; as of 01/15/2025)

  • Annual savings: approx. 6,000 EUR

Future-proofing and sustainability

By switching to modern heat pump technology from LAMBDA Heat Pumps, the Landgasthaus zur Quelle was able not only to significantly reduce its energy costs but also to make an important contribution to climate protection.
